The End of an Era

After 21 years and 60 singles titles (including eight Grand Slam titles and one career Grand Slam - a feat only five men are able to boast), Andre Agassi retired from professional tennis today to thunderous cheers and a standing ovation of 20,000+ fans at Arthur Ash stadium in Flushing Meadows, NY. In response, I have just this to say:

Gonna miss you, man. Gonna miss you...

Holy shitterbuckets, that was emotional! Not a dry eye in the house. Andre is indeed an amazing figure. What an awesome journey it's been, and what a transformation along the way.

Not only the 60 titles (wow) that you mentioned, but he is the only man in history to have won the golden slam. And he's married to the only woman to have done so.

An interesting side note that puts the length of his career into perspective: At one point during the match yesterday, the announcers were talking about how Becker has had a far better percentage at winning games at break-point -- 100%. 5-0. Compared to Agassi's 50-60ish% with a win loss of something like 220-108. Those numbers aren't quite right but you get the point.

He is truly a legend.
